About

As Associate Dean for Research, Kharma Foucher, MD, PhD works to foster a culture of collaboration, support, and community for AHS scholars. She leads the Office of Research, overseeing sponsored projects administration, providing and supervising research-related services, and promoting research accomplishments to internal and external stakeholders.

Her research aims to reduce the burden of osteoarthritis-related disability and eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in musculoskeletal health care through innovative person-centered biomechanics research. Current projects seek to identify and address disease-specific biomechanical factors associated with reduced physical activity and falls in people with osteoarthritis and joint replacements.

Outside of AHS, Dr. Foucher has a courtesy appointment in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and is the Director of Education and Professional Development for the Center for Clinical and Translational Science. Beyond UIC, she is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Biomechanical Engineering and a member of the Board of Directors of the Orthopaedic Research Society as the Chair of the Community Council.
